Where safety vinyl is the right choice
Commercial safety vinyl is designed for environments where slip resistance matters — commercial kitchens, healthcare settings, schools, nurseries, gyms, public toilets, food prep areas. It's also widely used in domestic kitchens and bathrooms by people who want the same level of safety at home. The surface texture provides grip even when the floor is wet, while still being smooth enough to mop and clean easily.
Slip ratings and HSE compliance
Safety vinyl is rated by its Pendulum Test Value (PTV) — measures slip resistance under wet conditions. We carry ranges with PTV ≥36 (low slip risk) and PTV ≥45 (very low slip risk). For commercial premises subject to HSE inspection, we'll specify the right rating and provide the manufacturer's certification with your quote. For domestic use, R10 or R11 ratings are the typical baseline.
Welded seams and coved skirting
For genuinely waterproof installs (commercial kitchens, wet rooms, care bathrooms), we hot-weld the seams between sheets and cove the vinyl up the wall to form an integrated skirting. No grout lines for water to seep through, no gap at the wall where dirt collects. The result is a single continuous waterproof surface that's mopped clean in minutes.
Subfloor preparation for commercial work
Commercial safety vinyl needs a flat, clean, dry subfloor. We strip out the existing covering, level any unevenness with self-smoothing compound, and apply a primer before laying. For damp subfloors (a common issue in older Liverpool premises), we apply a damp-proof membrane first. The prep takes longer than the fitting, but it's the difference between a floor that lasts 15 years and one that lifts in 3.
Aesthetic options — it doesn't have to look industrial
Modern safety vinyl comes in dozens of finishes — wood-effect, stone-effect, plain colours, contemporary patterns. The technical performance (slip resistance, weldability, durability) is the same regardless of how it looks. We carry samples in the shop so you can see what suits the space.
